COR Robotics – Eureka Engineering Camp (Gr. 3-5)
July 15, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CDT
An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until July 18, 2019
Eureka introduces students to the core skills of robotics and other STEM areas through engaging, hands-on learning opportunities. Student groups will work with Lego Mindstorm kits, which include both programming and mechanical components. The small groups will be mentored by experienced and passionate students from both high school and collegiate level robotics teams. For those interested in getting involved in FIRST Robotics, Eureka serves as a marvelous transition into a FIRST Lego League team! You can sign up for all three weeks at a discounted price or you can pick and choose your individual week. Each week will have a different program focus. June 17-20:Guided Robot Build, Cuboid Craze, EV3 Combat Robotics; July 15-18: Guided Robot Build (for first time campers), Finish Line, EV3 Combat Robotics; August 5-8: Guided Robot Build (for first time campers), Obstacle Races, EV3 Combat Robotics Game Descriptions: Guided Robot Build: Students will follow along with the EV3 build manual and build the “Robot Educator” robot while learning about the programming and mechanical capabilities of the EV3 robot platform Cuboid Craze: Students will build Lego robots designed to move and stack “cuboids” (Lego rectangular prisms) to score more points than their opponents. The robots are remote controlled with Kindle Fire tablets (or other smart devices) via the Lego Commander app. EV3 Combat Robotics: Students will build and remotely control fighting robots designed to knock other robots out of the playing area, or otherwise disable their opponents. Finish Line: Students will design and either program or remotely control dragsters which will be used in a number of drag racing tournaments with varying rules Obstacle Races: Students will design and either program or remotely control racing vehicles which will need to traverse obstacles and race around a track faster their opponents. All games end with a competitive tournament among all the participating teams. Students work in teams of 2-4 to build their robots for all of the games.
