August 12, 2017

Event Navigation

Beginning at 12:30 p.m., trained archery instructors will provide an introduction to the sport, along with assistance in shooting a bow in a safe, supervised setting at the Molly Stark picnic shelter. Archery in the Parks is part of a series of skill-building programs offered by the DNR’s Division of Parks and Trails that is financed by the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.

At 7:00 p.m., meet at the Sunset Lake Council Ring to learn about our state butterfly, the monarch. The monarch has a big reputation but is one of the marvelous small things found in the prairie. Right now, monarch butterflies are laying eggs and transforming in preparation for their incredible fall journey to Mexico. Their populations have fallen, and they face many challenges, but the naturalist can let you know how you can help.

No reservation is required for these programs. All equipment and instruction is provided, but a vehicle permit ($7/one-day or $35 year-round) is required to enter Minnesota state parks and recreation areas. Anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For more information, call the park at 218-864-0110 or email questions to [email protected]
