DESCRIPTION:The Alexandria Art Guild’s June Artist of the Month\, Jewett Benson\, will be honored at an Artist Reception on Friday\, June 12\, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Guild’s downtown gallery\, 612 Broadway Street in Alexandria. A retired Alexandria art educator\, Benson works in watercolor\, oil\, and mixed media\, creating landscapes\, florals\, abstractions\, and graphic works inspired by the beauty of central Minnesota. \nThe public is invited to meet the artist\, view a special exhibition of his work\, and enjoy light refreshments. \nThe exhibition will remain on display throughout June. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday\, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday\, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and closed Sunday.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Nature Photography Day with the Alexandria Art Guild on Monday\, June 15\, at 11:30 a.m. for “Out of Africa: A Photo Safari Adventure with Barbara Johnson\,” a slide presentation and Q&A exploring Johnson’s wildlife photography experiences in Africa. The event will be held at the Alexandria Art Guild Gallery\, 612 Broadway Street in downtown Alexandria.  Free and open to the public. \nThe gallery is also featuring a special Nature Photography Day exhibit showcasing the work of Guild members Barbara Johnson and Dean Curtis.
