A collaboration between the City of Alexandria, Douglas County and the Independent School District #206 along with numerous lakes area entities has brought to the public a much needed centralized hub for community events and happenings. The Alexandria Area Community Calendar was launched on January 1 st , 2017 with the goal of providing a cohesive look at area events in one place.
It has been a big undertaking to get the calendar to a working conclusion. We are so happy to see all of these groups working together for a community project. We look forward to continued projects together.”
Todd Jensen, Alexandria City Councilman
Key contributing organizations to the project are Explore Alexandria Tourism, Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission, Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, Voice of Alexandria and the Echo Press to assist in the seamless sharing of events data.
“We are happy to work on this project since we have seen how valuable it will be for the members of our community. We hope that people and organizations use it for planning events as well learning the details of events going on in the community. It is also a big help to show our visitors how much we have going on for them to do when they come to visit.”
Charlie Meyer, Douglas County Commissioner
On top of providing awareness of events to the public, the calendar also provides the ability for community businesses and organizations to submit events for the calendar. The types of approved events include local school events, sports, concerts, fundraisers, informational seminars & meetings, grand openings and other valued-added happenings that are open to the public. Retail sales, yard sales and other direct solicitations of commerce are not allowed.
“The Local Government Coordination Committee is committed in continuing to meet and find other ways for our organizations to partner.” Sandy Susag, ISD #206 School Board member
