A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at noon to celebrate the start of construction at the Runestone Community Center (RCC) located at 802 3rd Ave. W.

Phases 1 and 2 of construction will include renovation and expansion of the lobby, locker rooms, support spaces, and the addition of an elevator.

Phase 3, which would build a third arena onto the community center, can move forward once the $8.8 million fundraising goal has been met. An additional arena will enable the RCC to host more on-ice activities – curling events, figure skating competitions and hockey tournaments – and dry-floor events – trade shows, seminars, concerts and graduations – which is projected to bring $2 million in increased revenue to the Alexandria area.
