Join us for a poetry night featuring local talent during Banned Books Week!
HOSTED BY SU AND LEWIS
Su will be reading new poems written for her State Arts Board project called Place Your Unprotected Hands Over Your Eyes (to protect them). These are poems incited by her father witnessing 12 atomic detonations when he was in the Navy in 1958. She’ll also read from her most recent book, The Memoir of Mona Lisa and Other Poems.
Lewis Mundt will read from God of the Whole Animal and a selection of new work.
Su Love is the author of six poetry books. Su is a fiscal year 2023 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Lewis Mundt is the author of the collection The God of the Whole Animal, and his work has been published by The Rumpus, Revolver, and Paper Darts, among others. He was the founding director of the Hamline University Poetry Slam, where he performed on and coached team members to national-level stages across the country, as well as publisher at Beard Poetry, a small Minnesota press dedicated to producing affordable, high-quality publications for readers and writers. He currently works as marketing and events coordinator at Copper Trail Brewing in Alexandria, where he lives, and his second collection is slated for release in 2024.
