The Journeymen Chorus
PREMIER BARBERSHOP CHORUS PLANS TOUR STOP IN ALEXANDRIA
Tour shows will include two past champion quartets
ALEXANDRIA, MINN.—The Journeymen Chorus is taking its show on the road.
In another first for the region’s premier barbershop chorus, The Journeymen Chorus will be heading out west for a tour of western Minnesota and South Dakota.
Along with acclaimed quartets Chord Smash and Kordal Kombat, The Journeymen will perform their brand of high fidelity barbershop at the Alexandria Performing Arts Center on Sunday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m.
Fresh off a performance at the ACDA of Minnesota’s 2024 State Conference in Mahtomedi, Minn., and a Collegiate Vocal Festival performance in Eau Claire, Wis., The Journeymen are excited to put their diverse and thrilling repertoire of songs on stage for a new audience. The chorus will perform songs from Disney films, classical men’s choral, a cappella, pop, gospel, and of course barbershop.
“We’re excited to be boarding a bus and hitting the road for the first time,” Journeymen President Jay Fahl said. “This tour will be the culmination of a lot of hard work from our members, but also a ton of fun for us and for our audiences. We can’t wait to get there and perform for you all.”
Likewise, Chord Smash and Kordal Kombat, both of which are Land O’Lakes District Barbershop champions, are seasoned entertainers and singers who will perform a wide array of music, each with its own artistic flair.
Tickets are first come, first served courtesy of the Red Willow Arts Coalition. A free will donation will be accepted at the event.
About The Journeymen
The Journeymen Chorus was established in the post-COVID world of Summer 2022, when our founding director Scott Perau began meeting with a group of his close friends and fellow barbershop singers who, at the time, were not doing a whole lot of organized singing. The idea was to bring together some of the most accomplished barbershop singers in the Upper Midwest, guys who could not only sing and perform at a high level, but also would have a boatload of fun together before, during, and after each gathering. The resulting ensemble counts among its members more than a dozen Land O’Lakes District Barbershop Quartet champions, several experienced music educators, and singers who hail from three different states! The Journeymen Chorus is committed to making great men’s vocal harmony that has a positive emotional impact on our audiences while offering our members the opportunity to experience fun, camaraderie, and brotherhood.
About Journeymen Director Scott Perau
Scott Perau directs the choirs of Red Wing High School. A graduate of UW-River Falls in 2008 with a degree in Choral Music Education, Scott studied voice and conducting with Dr. Jong-Won Park, and also earned his Masters of Education in 2017 from UWRF. Scott is in his 16th year of teaching, with the last 10 years at Red Wing High School. At RWHS, Scott directs four curricular choirs, an extra-curricular a cappella choir, and vocal music/pit orchestra for the annual high school musicals. Throughout his career, many of Scott’s students have been selected for regional and state honors choirs, and multiple soloists, small ensembles, and choirs have received top ratings at contests. In 2015 his Somerset High School choir was selected to perform at the Wisconsin ACDA State Convention.
