Head to Lake Carlos State Park for their Creatures of the Night event!

The eerie hoot of an owl lets you know that it is there even if you can’t see it. While most other birds begin turning in for the night, owls are often just waking up. Equipped with superhero-like senses including silent flight, owls are stealthy predators. Drop by the main office to find out what it takes to master the night sky.

Meeting spot: Outside the Main Park Office

Fall Color Walk: Hike with the Naturalist

Join the area naturalist for the Fall Color Walk and a morning of fall related topics.

During this just over a one hour walk he will introduce you to some of the seasonal changes happening in the park. This is great way to get out on a guided walk on crisp fall morning and enjoy the fall leaf color around the park. Bring your nature questions as well as your binoculars and camera if you have them. Meet at the beach area parking lot.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Programs and events may be canceled due to inclement weather.

A park vehicle pass is required to enter the park and can be purchased at the park office. $35/annual or $7/day.

Youth Outdoor Activity Day

Youth Outdoor Activity Day is a free family-friendly event intended to provide youth a fun environment in which to learn about outdoor recreation.

Activities include trap shooting, archery, hunting, angling and many other related skills. Over 40 hands-on activities and demonstrations are planned. This public event is made possible through a consortium of participating volunteer organizations, businesses, individuals, and donors.

Hosted and organized by the Viking Sportsmen (VS) and Douglas County Pheasants Forever (PF), the annual event takes place at the Alexandria Shooting Park.

Alexandria Airport Fly-in/Open House

Alexandria Regional Airport’s fly-in and open house is back, Saturday June 1st! Come for breakfast stay for the airplanes!
This is your chance to see all that goes on at the airport, look at airplanes and equipment up close, and interact with local pilots and others. Bring your whole family.

Take a Kid Ice Fishing Weekend

Take a Kid Ice Fishing Weekend coming up Feb 3rd & 4th, 8am – 1pm each day. No license or Trout Stamp required for kids under 18. Kids will be fishing for Rainbow Trout that were stocked in October, some of them are up to 5-6lbs. Park at the Lure Lake Bar, a shuttle will bring you to/from the Bemo Pond. Limited amount of ice fishing equipment is available, please bring your own if you have some. We’ll also have some drawings for the kids! Thanks

CANCELLED – Candlelight Event

DUE TO THE PREDICTED GREATER THAN -20 WIND-CHILL VALUES AND POOR TRAIL CONDITIONS, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED – PLAN FOR OUR NEXT EVENT ON FEBRUARY 17TH. 

Come enjoy a winter evening in the park. Walk the trail where you will be guided by the full moon, candles and lanterns. Then come warm up by the wood stove or enjoy snacks and refreshments in the Lakeview warming shelter.

**This event will be a hike at this time due to snow conditions. It is Minnesota, so please dress appropriately. Good traction footwear or ice cleats are helpful for uneven ground and hills. The trail for this event will be a special section lit for this event only as our regular summer hiking trails designated cross-country ski trails.

There is no cost for this event, but a Minnesota state parks vehicle permit is required to enter the park ($7/day or $35/year).

SAVE TIME! Get your vehicle permit in advance. Visit mndnr.gov/reservations, log in (or create an account), click on “entry permit,” select a duration of “one-day” ($7) or “year-round” ($35), and continue as directed. You’ll receive an email with a permit that can be printed and displayed in your vehicle during your visit.

In that case, the event may be canceled or changed at the last minute, due to poor weather or wind conditions on the day of the event.
